Question: Can non-members serve on committees?
Answer: A non-member can serve on some committees. Non-members cannot be on the church council, the pastor-parish relations committee, or the committee on nominations and leadership development. The Discipline requires that persons serving on these committees must be members of the local church.
Non-members can serve on the board of trustees. ¶ 2524 of the 2008 Book of Discipline , on the membership of the board of trustees, says, "The trustees shall be of legal age as determined by law, and at least two-thirds shall be members of The United Methodist Church...."
